The Northeast Ohio Scholastic Art Awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. at Youngstown State University.
The ceremony will include awards given to students who received Gold and Silver Key awards as well as an honorable mention. The 474 individual nominations and 21 regional portfolio nominations from grades 7-12 students from Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Ashtabula counties reflect the outstanding work of students at each participating school.
From these nominations, a jury selects works to receive honorable mention, silver and gold keys, and five nominations for the prestigious American Visions Awards. Finalists for the American Visions Award and Golden Key will be sent to New York, where they will compete for prizes and possible scholarships with other students from across the country.
The program is designed to encourage student creativity, provide opportunities for enrichment through interaction with their contemporaries, and bring student works to public view.
The ceremony will take place at the Ford Theater in Bliss Hall. Free entry.
Student work will be on display through Wednesday in YSU’s Judith Rae Solomon Gallery on the second floor of Bliss Hall. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
Akron Mahoning Valley Children’s Hospital, the Youngstown Foundation and Boardman Rotary as well as Youngstown State University’s Department of Visual and Dramatic Arts supported this year’s show.
