The Rutland Musical Theater prepares for the Fiddler on the Roof show at the Corby Cube

The Rutland Musical Theater will soon step outside the tiny county for the first time in its history to put on a show.

The first covid lockdown was put in place just weeks before the theater company was due to perform Fiddler on the Roof.

Production was postponed, but in June last year the company was forced to vacate its planned theater and seek alternative venues.

With no other theaters in Rutland big enough to host the planned production, eyes turned to the larger neighboring counties in the East Midlands, before settling on the Corby Cube.

The cast recently visited the Corby Cube for the first time for a tour and to undertake rehearsals in the new performance environment.

Tom Johnson, Rutland Musical Theater Chairman and Production Manager, said: “Entering the Corby Cube Theater for the first time brought about a whole host of emotions for our cast and our company.

“It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the fantastic space and quality west end auditorium that greets you as you enter the theater – but coupled with a slight nervous energy, the overriding atmosphere was one of great joy and excitement.

“It was the injection of energy and determination the cast needed in the run-up to our final weeks of rehearsals and I have no doubt that joy will flow from our cast to our audience.”

After nearly three years in the making, Rutland Musical Theater’s Fiddler on the Roof will take the stage at Corby Cube from April 13-16.

A cast and crew of more than 50, ages 10 to 80, will perform five shows consisting of four evening performances and a Saturday matinee.

With songs such as “Tradition”, “If I were a Rich Man” and “Matchmaker”, and some stilts, the show should be the most ambitious show the group has played.

Tickets are selling well, with some performances now having less than 100 seats remaining and the rest of the performances following close behind.
