Season 13 of The Encore brings back a popular tradition – the tribute concert series. The first in the season lineup is QUEEN, packed with hits we all know and love like “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “We Will Rock You”, “We are the Champions” and many more.
As artistic director, Dan Cooney, explains: âOur Queen Tribute was one of the events we were forced to postpone in 2020, when the pandemic shut the world off. A year and a half later here we are, operating at half capacity, but delighted to bring that gig back to our new venue. “
Queen’s singer, songwriter, record producer and lead singer Freddy Mercury was considered one of the greatest singers in rock music history. Known for his flamboyant stage character and four-octave vocal range, Mercury challenged the conventions of a leader with a very theatrical style that influenced the group’s artistic direction.
The cast of Queen includes Flint native Jason Briggs, who last appeared in Encore’s summer concert, Broadway Rocks !, and is currently bringing down the house in their Season 13 opening, Smokey. Joe’s Café. A native of Detroit and a powerful singer, Arielle Crosby, returns to the stage of The Encore after her starring turn in this summer’s Be Our Guest – The Songs of Disney. Ann Arbor native Chris Joseph, who appeared this summer in Simply Sondheim and Standard Time, also makes audiences turn pale in Smokey Joe’s. Newcomer Hope Elizabeth Schafer comes to The Encore from New York to add her impressive voice, and, to complete the cast, Encore favorite Tyler J. Messinger. Last seen in the Some Enchanted Evening and Broadway Rocks! Summer concerts, Tyler is currently “Dancin ‘to the Jailhouse Rock” at Smokey Joe’s Café.
“We are delighted that some of Michigan’s best musicians are bringing Queen’s music to life,” said the Music Director, R. MacKenzie Lewis. “They’re going to blow up the roof!” In the same way MacKenzie Lewis on keyboards are Billy Harrington on drums, Mike Harrington on guitar and Sam collins on bass.
