Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to shine the spotlight on Venom and the Symbiote when it releases in 2023, and Peter Parker might just have to rely on Miles Morales to keep it from going overboard. Details on the sequel at the moment are scarce, with only a short trailer having been released towards the end of 2021. However, said teaser revealed some interesting elements, including a new superior Spider-Man style costume for Peter, as well as the possible presence of Kraven the Hunter.
Venom was first teased with the end of the PS4 Marvel’s Spiderman, which revealed that Harry Osborn was being kept in stasis by his father Norman in his penthouse apartment. Harry, who suffered from the same terminal illness that killed his mother, was placed in stasis by his father and – as the post-credits scene reveals – shows him covered in a mysterious black goo. This tease was developed in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which again showed Norman desperately hoping that Harry would be okay. While Venom’s identity in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has not been confirmed, the aforementioned post-credit teasers would imply that this is Peter’s old childhood friend under the symbiote.
However, while Venom should largely be an antagonistic presence in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, there are a few clues that point to Peter also wielding the black suit at some point in the story. Despite the addition of new Marvel’s Spiderman PC mods, the symbiote suit was conspicuously absent from the first game at launch. Combine that with the fact that the Black Suit Saga is one of the most famous wall-crawler story arcs, and it looks like there’s a strong possibility that Peter will succumb to the symbiote in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Given the costume’s corrupting influence historically, it could lead Peter down a darker path and possibly come into conflict with Miles. In order to wrest Peter from the control of the symbiote, Miles may be forced to remind his mentor what Spider-Man is, while dealing with Norman and a fiery Kraven.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Could Show the True Power of Venom’s Symbiote
We don’t know how Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will integrate both Miles and Peter’s Spider-Men into gameplay, but it’s assumed that both will be playable, given Spider-Man: Miles Morales fleshed out Miles’ version of the wall-crawler. Reflecting its unique capabilities of Ultimate Spider-Man comics, Insomniac gave Miles a cloaking feature and his bioelectric venom blast powers. Peter will prepare a new costume in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but the symbiote could bring a similar twist to gameplay as seen in Insomniac’s previous Marvel effort. This would make any potential conflict between the two Spider-Men even more intense, with Miles having to use his full moveset to save Peter from the symbiote in marvel’s Spiderman 2.
As much as fans will speculate on what storylines may or may not appear when the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 set in 2023, the idea of the symbiote corrupting Peter and Miles being forced to save him could make for a particularly emotional arc. Miles has had to step in once before, and that could be an even bigger challenge. Consider the gameplay potential of pitting the two Spider-Men against each other, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could become even more dramatic than its predecessors.
