The Loveland Opera Theater offers community members of all ages the opportunity to escape to a mysterious and magical world few have seen through its upcoming production of “Brigadoon” at the Rialto Theatre.

The popular musical is based on the book by Alan Jay Lerner with music composed by Frederick Lowe. The first production of “Brigadoon” took place in 1947 at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York, where it ran for 581 performances. The show has two acts with multiple settings and is a mix of comedy, romance, fairy tale and fantasy. The musical has adult themes, but is suitable for ages 13 and up.

The opera’s production of the musical will not only feature incredible sets, costumes and characters, but also a live orchestra including a bagpiper.

The show tells the story of two American tourists – Tommy Albright and Jeff Douglas – who stumble upon a mysterious village in the Scottish Highlands named Brigadoon. The village only appears to the public one day every 100 years, and while most residents are happy with their unique location, some are not.

As the history of the village unfolds to Tommy and Jeff, they become more fascinated with the village and its occupants, so much so that Tommy ends up falling head over heels in love with Fiona MacLaren while Jeff engages in flirtations. harmless with Meg Brockie. Will Tommy decide to stay or return to the United States? Are the flirtations between Jeff and Meg getting hotter? Does the village disappear in the mist?
