Libby Cooper secures a place at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA)

A STOCKTON Heath artist is expected to follow in the footsteps of Marvel star Tom Hiddleston and Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

The world-renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) has offered Libby Cooper a place in her core course, which lasts one term and promises to provide a glimpse into life in a conservatory drama school.

The former drama student at Priestley College will be working on her acting skills, movement and voice at the world-renowned center of excellence.

Besides Tom Hiddleston and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, notable alumni have included Anthony Hopkins, Alan Rickman, Ralph Fiennes, Sean Bean, Taron Egerton, Clive Owen and Maxine Peake.

“I put off my candidacy for years because I thought I would be wasting their time. I didn’t tell anyone that I applied, ”she said.

During her studies, Libby will take specialized theater classes, an introduction to dramatic writing and various masterclasses.

The former Bridgewater High School student said it came as a surprise to make the cut.

She added, “I knew I was being considered for an encore, but there’s always someone better than you, so I assumed nothing would come of it. I just can’t wait to play with other people again because it’s been seven months since I got to do it. There are only a number of monologues that you can understand.

Libby was originally studying English, French and history elsewhere before deciding to become an actress.

She chose Priestley College because of its reputation for sending performers to the best theater schools in the country and studied A-Level Theater and BTEC Performing Arts.

After completing her basic course at RADA, she hopes to embark on a three-year BA in drama school.

Then, like most actors, just hopes to make a living doing what she loves.

Libby said: “Coming into Priestley I probably would have said I would rather be on screen, but there’s a different kind of freedom with theater and I think live audiences we all miss. I would love to be one of those actors who dives in and out of both.
