With a lot of humor, it tackles the challenges almost all children face while feeling slightly different from others. Most importantly, it lets us understand that winning is NOT everything and that sometimes even losers are winners. Guillaume Finn (who composed the FALSETTO and A NEW BRAIN trilogy) provides a delicious score with amazing lyrics and Rachel SheinkinThe book gives six adult actors the chance to reconnect with their inner youth! “

Winner of the Tony and Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, designed by Rebecca Feldman, charmed audiences across the country with her effortless wit and humor. With a fast, insanely funny and touching book of Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by Guillaume Finn (Composer of FALSETTOS), this bee is an unforgettable experience. An eclectic group of six mid-pubescent pubescent (all played by adult actors) compete for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly revealing hilarious and touching stories from their family life, the tweens weave their way through a series of (potentially invented) words, hoping to never hear the overwhelming, pout-inducing and unassertive ‘ding’. the bell that indicates a spelling error.

Six spellings come in … one spell comes out victorious! Losers get a hug and a box of juice.

The production also includes a novelty not often seen in a Broadway musical, as four members of the audience each night get the chance to shine when invited on stage to compete as a spelling during the first act of the show!

The show would be rated PG-13 for its strong language and some sexual content (dealing with “complications” of male puberty) and is recommended for ages 13 and older. To allow the show to be accessible to a wider audience, four morning performances on October 23, 24, 30 and 31 will be presented with most of the linguistic and sexual content adjusted to be acceptable for young children aged 8 and under. more.
