Fermanagh musical theater troupe to host uplifting variety production

ELO is back in Ardhowen. After a forced absence from Covid for two years, they are finally back on stage in front of a live audience. This year the group presents, The Show Must Go On, a joyful and uplifting revue, featuring some of the biggest acts Broadway and the West End have to offer.

It’s been a tough eighteen months for everyone, and ELO felt that this year’s production should celebrate the human spirit as only a great musical theater can. The production team has put together a fantastic show full of light and shadow, song and dance, laughter and tears.

Director John McCann told us about the thoughts behind this year’s show. He said, “The past year and a half has shown us all how much we need the arts in our lives and how much we need human contact. We wanted to put on a show that celebrates this and features the best in musical theater. Above all, we want to give everyone a fun and inspiring night out. We have music and dancing from Mamma Mia, Beauty and the Beast, Wicked, as well as Les Misérables and of course my favorite, Hamilton. And much more. We are all very excited to get back on stage and it will be a brilliant show.

“We still live in the shadow of the pandemic, and it hasn’t been easy to put the show together. The cast and crew were fantastic though. Everyone did lateral flow tests before each rep, i.e. three times a week tickling the back of the tonsils, not much fun. In our rehearsal rooms, we left the doors and windows open for ventilation, which was more than a little chilly as we went into the fall. But everyone took precautions on board and we stayed safe and kept production on track. It’s tough, but it’s so good to be back and we can’t wait to put the show back in front of a live audience again. ”

The Show Must Go On promises to be an exuberant and joyful celebration of the best in musical theater. Overall, the perfect start to Christmas and the antidote to the confinement blues. The show runs from Wednesday December 1 to Saturday December 4 at the Ardhowen Theater, Enniskillen.
