Australian girl fights loneliness with musical on Zoom

London, UK: Australian Kristie Winsen, now based in London, battles loneliness during pandemic – on Zoom. Kristie Winsen was stuck at home in London after completing her musical theater studies at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She started a regular free concert on Zoom with other musical theater graduates and professionals from the West End. Almost a year later, UPLIFT musical theater concerts are now reaching people in more than 25 countries, including a dedicated audience in their country.

UPLIFT concerts are designed to boost morale. Each artist shares something they have found inspiring. The concerts are broadcast on Zoom because it is more personal than the streaming services. Despite the work and expense of organizing these concerts, they remain free for everyone in the world. Kristie Winsen received a Whats On Stage Angel Award in London for her concert work.

The performers included:
– Desi Oakley (Jenna, waitress – West End, Wicked – Broadway)
– Katy Treharne (Christine, Phantom of the Opera – West End)
– Alexander Mendoza (Reprise Raoul, The Phantom of the Opera – World Tour)
– Stephen Kramer Glickman (Nickolodean’s Big Time Rush, Warner Animation’s Storks, Shrek The Musical)

As well as fellow Australians Hayley Maybury, Thomas Currie, Stephanie Priest and Teya Duncan.

Messages of encouragement are coming from all over the world – and the artists who participate in them:

“Seeing artists come together in a time like this and put together something beautiful – well done. “
“It was more alive and dynamic but still more personal than anything I have experienced on Zoom!”
