2 students from Arizona will participate in the National Musical Theater Awards


PHOENIX — Two high school students from Arizona are heading to Broadway later this month to compete in the National Musical Theater Awards.

ASU Prep Polytech High School’s Tre Moore and Maricopa High School’s Haley Raffaele were named Best Male Lead and Best Female Lead, respectively, at the ASU Gammage High School Musical Theater Awards on Saturday, according to a press release.

The two will make their Broadway debut at the Minskoff Theater and compete against 90 other students from across the country at the 13th Annual Jimmy Awards.

In addition to performing at the awards ceremony, which will take place on June 27, Moore and Raffaele will spend a week in the Big Apple participating in master classes and receiving training and preparation with Broadway coaches. and accomplished professionals, according to the release.

The National High School Musical Theater Awards, established in 2009, has in the past offered scholarships to those who impress the jury and are chosen as the best performance by an actor and an actress.

Hundreds of students participated in the event over the weekend at ASU Gammage, according to the release, which included dozens of stage performances.

Meanwhile, Chandler High School’s production of “Legally Blonde” received the award for Best Musical at the event.
